Dhaka National Medical College is a private college in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The college was established during the non-cooperation movement of Indian Subcontinent against British colonial rule the Indian National Congress and the Indian Muslim League under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Mawlana Muhammad Ali, and Mawlana Shaukat Ali.
They urged the Non- Cooperation movement to boycott the educational institutions established by the British Government. They also decided to establish the National Schools and National Colleges for modern education. Therefore 2 Medical colleges were established. One in Calcutta named Calcutta National Medical Institute and another in Dhaka named Dhaka National Medical College. The college offered 4 years Medical Course at the beginning of their journey but the Government of Pakistan urged to replace the course by 5 years. But the Dhaka National Medical College could not open 5 years course due to the none cooperation of Pakistan Government. In 1994 under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Sadeque Hossan Khoka, the college’s foundation stone was laid by the former Prime Minister Of India in 1995.
The first batch enrollment were 63 students. There are almost 1502 graduate doctors that have passed out from college and now working in well-recognized hospitals. The college offers 5 years duration of MBBS course in Bangladesh. The college is considered among the top Medical Colleges in Bangladesh.
